Copenhagen’s infamous producer, songwriter & DJ wizz-kid just released his new album, entitled ‘Fool’. In 2010 – while having already gained notoriety as a DJ and Producer – his album debut ‘Standing On Top Of Utopia’, confirmed his presence on an even grander level. Radio friendly, intelligent and feel-good electronic pop never sounded so fresh. Now with ‘Fool’ Kasper continues his wild and ecstatic journey into the future of music. The second single to feature from the new long-player is the casually cool ‘Deep Is The Breath’. Now a permanent fixture in Kasper’s more song-based endeavours, ex-Murder and I Got You On Tape vocalist Jacob Bellens features alongside up-coming talent Emma Acs in the tantalising original. A typical mixture of throbbing electronic pop and heartfelt songwriting, this first taste of ‘Fool’ is sure to alight your curiosities and even more.

After a blistering debut on Hot Creations with the irrepressible ‘Games’, released in November last year, Infinity Ink are back with ‘Infinity’ on Crosstown Rebels. A momentous slice of Cosmic Garage that is about to transform your summer forever!

Long-term friends and cohorts Ali Love and Luca C have succeeded with something quite extraordinary in their new production guise as Infinity Ink. Already amassing a legion of support and an escalating fan-base their unique cosmic take on garage has struck a chord with the dance-floor and beyond. ‘Infinity’ has been one of Crosstown Rebels most highly anticipated records of recent times. A smattering of DJ’s, from Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, Damian Lazarus, Lee Foss and Art Department have been championing its intoxicating qualities to nigh on sonic-hysteria over the past few months. Luca and Ali’s anthemic ‘Infinity’ is set to reach epidemic proportions this summer!

‘Infinity’ is an incredibly hooky slice of left of centre underground house, which encompasses elements of garage, through a hallucinatory resonance that cleverly maintains its notion of pop-sensibility. Ali’s evocative trademark vocal phrasing faultlessly compliments the monstrous disco bass line and intoxicating melody. A perfect unison that culminates in a piece of music that is pure hedonistic joy!

When remixing such a ground breaking piece of leftfield garage, who would be more suitable than Todd Edwards, and here he goes the extra mile to deliver arguably his best remix of recent years. The remix king of hypnotic staccato garage, Todd takes ‘Infinity’ to the next level and whisks you away to The Raleigh at WMC ’96! On the flip, the guys jack the groove and deliver another killer in the guise of ‘House of Infinity’. A superb compliment to ‘Infinity’, this is for more peak-time play, as disco fills, jacking hi-hats and Ali’s hypnotic vocals mesmerize the listener into a spellbinding state of dance-floor bliss.

Ali Love’s prolific career has witnessed him produce two artist albums; several hit singles, and provided the vocals on hits by The Chemical Brothers, Justice, M Craft and Hot Natured. Luca C, formally of Luca C & Brigante fame, has been producing music under various guises and in various band for years and has recently co-written and produced a track on Jamie Jones’s latest album. Besides working together as Infinity Ink, Luca and Ali are working on a project with Jamie and Hot Creations — more news to be announced soon. So now, with Infinity Ink as the combination of their extraordinary talents, the future is looking very bright indeed for Luca and Ali.

Two of the hottest young artists around, Huxley & Sam Russo, deliver the latest instalment of Leftroom Ltd this May in ʻJammas Basementʼ.

Both Huxley and Sam Russo have been garnering much attention of late, with Huxley delivering the massive ʻLet it Goʼ single for Hypercolour and Russo unleashing low slung electronic weapons for Leftroom and Air London. As Djs, the sometime flatmates have an enviable reputation. Russo, a close collaborator of Craig Richards, is an increasingly regular fixture at Fabric in London (not to mention his packed touring schedule) while Huxleyʼs name can be seen on a huge amount of impressive and eclectic line ups.

ʻJammaʼs Basementʼ is a finely balanced mixture of what Huxley and Russo are known for, with Huxleyʼs skipping drums complimenting Russoʼs love of off kilter melodies perfectly. A jabbing, rounded bassline gives the track a real sense of guts — prodding the listener while vocal snippets and lurching synths ebb and flow throughout what is a brilliantly simple arrangement.

On the flipside is ʻWilliamʼs Trainersʼ, a track that sees the duo indulge their shared love of 90ʼs house and garage sounds and updating classic tropes with a deft touch. Swinging, dense and forward thinking ʻWilliamʼs Trainersʼ is a rich affair that always seems to have an additional quirk around ever corner and, as such, is real ʻrideʼ of a listen.

With two in form artists like Huxley & Russo, a collaboration is always an attractive prospect and ʻJammaʼs Basementʼ doesnʼt disappoint.

Gant Garrard (pronounced Jerrod)(aka Gant-Man to the Ghetto Juke House world and Brother 2 Brother alongside Paul Johnson) was introduced to mixing in the early 80′s by his older brother and learned how to count beats and blend records at the young age of 5 with Disco, New York Gararge, Electronic, Hip Hop and Chicago House music. At age 10 he was ready to share his talent with the world and began mixing on a college radio station in Chicago [WKKC 89.3 FM] where he mixed from 1989 through 1997. At age 15 in 1995, Gant produced his first EP for Dance Mania called “Its About Time” which spawned the Chicago Underground smash 3 Blind Mice which was built around the theme music from The Three Stooges television show. He became known in Chicago as the Youngest Professional DJ and is attributed to being one of the main key innovators of Ghetto Juke House. At age 18 he began to travel, playing both the Rave and club circuits in the U.S. as well as in Europe. In 1998-99 Gant was playing in Paris at Le Queen and Gibus as well as in Geneve, Switzerland at the Lake Parade prepared him for his Summer 2000 residency in Ibiza, Spain at El Divino alongside Paul Johnson and DJ Skip. You Gotta Get Up was a huge success on Dust Traxx Chicago that was even reissued with Paul Johnson remixes and continues to be repressed due to relentless demand. Gant has recently teamed with 2004 grammy award winning producer Maurice Joshua to work on remix production for Beyonce, Destiny’s Child and other major artists as well as submitting Juke House remixes to major labels hoping the A&R’s will give Gant a chance to exploit this long awaited underground Chicago sound that has been around since 1992. As of December 2005, Gant is the first DJ/producer to have a Chicago Juke house remix for an major artist on a major label with his remix for Beyonce’s “Check On It” feat. Slim Thug on Columbia/Sony Records. For the past couple of years multi-talented Gant has silently leaked his hip hop producing skills to the rap industry. Now with 17 years of being a DJ, 12 years of producing tracks and releasing production on labels like Columbia, Riviera, Dust Traxx, Treehouse, Bunchlox and Dance Mania, his career has become more prolific with each passing year. Gant has the experience to move crowds all over the world with his House, Ghetto Juke, old school & Hip-Hop sound and will move any crowd he is given the chance to.

Brand new Gant Garrard/ DJ Gant-Man track ” Dem Dawgs” from new EP entitled ” Nineteen Ninety Somethin.” Released from Chicago’s renowned House label Cajual Records.

Following his ultra successful “Love” release on Ready Mix, Marco Grandi returns to the table with his super cool second single “Bonita” including a few hot remixes by our veteran beat makers “Evren Ulusoy & Sezer Uysal”, “Harlem Knights Feat. Re-Bound” and “Moti Brothers”. In true Marco Grandi fashion, The Original mix is a deep & chunky dancefloor affair that hits all the right notes. A Funky groove bassline that swings below emotional strings and very well programmed old school house pads along with a very effective male vox that brings it all together. Spring is in the air! Evren Ulusoy & Sezer Uysal jack things up and concentrate on the groove and vocals. Harlem Knights Feat. Re-Bound go extra deep & dubby and use the Original elements carefully to recreate a west coast inspired rendition. Moti Brothers add their smoothly sophisticated signature with crispy percussion to close this release in style. Enjoy!

Zurichs Hive Club celebrates its sixth birthday with a compilation of exclusive tracks via its Hive Audio imprint this spring. Taking in tracks from the likes of Luna City Express, Matthias Meyer, Sis, David Keno, and Animal Trainer (who run both the club and label). 6 Years Hive is a package of sleek, modern house music that reflects both the label and the clubs considerable reputation. Curated by Animal Trainer (Adrian Wollhaf and Samuel Gmur), the vinyl/digital unmixed compilation kicks off with Jan Blomqvists emotive, vocal cut “I Dont Think About You” – a warm and inviting opener that instantly sets the scene before David Kenos “I Know Now” firms up the groove beautifully. Adriatique, one of two new local acts signed up for the comp via their patronage of the club, delivers a Moog- infused low-slung cut in Freakin while Animal Trainer provide contrast with the wispy melodica of “Lazy Fat Bird”. The second slab takes in some heavy hitters in the form of SIS, Matthias Meyer and Luna City Express. SIS, known for deservedly hyped material for Villalobos Sei Es Drum, turns in a hugely atmospheric peak timer with “IIkbahar” while Meyer employs loose, disco drums and resonant toms for a decidedly old-school, funk laced slant. Luna City Express Take That rolls out punchy bass, brass stabs and vocal samples for a rousing piece of Phil Weeks-esque house that shows off their skills in spades. The final slab of 6 Years Hive kicks off with Rampa & Re.You ft. Kissey “Say My Name” – a bubbling, shuffled house excursion with delicate chords, breathy vox and punchy bottom end. Benja & Reto Ardour, the second of the new talent on show, turn in a fine, synth heavy electro-disco leaning cut while Stil Vor Talent artist Niko Schwind winds things up with an end of night beast in “Searchin”.

Dj, Producer and Liebe*Detail key artist Matthias Meyer hails from the quiet town of Lueneberg, near Hamburg, Germany. As a young, excited music lover, the hi-tech sounds of Detroit and Chicago spoke to Matthias, and encouraged him to seek the excitement and hustle of nearby Hamburg’s diverse club scene. From here he let music take control, actively promoting this newfound scene in his local towns with the Sfunkt DJ collective, organising parties that would bring the electronic message to an otherwise dance-less area.

Together with the Sfunkt crew and his close friend and future production partner Patlac, Matthias began to play bigger and better venues, to more and more acclaim. His horizons began to broaden, and his production skills sharpened, seeing the release of his debut track, ‘Reichenbach’, on Hamburg’s much-loved Liebe*Detail label in 2006. A tough and powerful, big-room bomb, Reichenbach summed up the Meyer’s broad mixture of influences, from Detroit’s technical wizardry to the musicality and experimentation of Germany’s fresh faced electronic movement.

‘Voltage’, his second release was to follow with yet more hit potential, carrying a beautiful, resonating melody across a positively uplifting techno backdrop, but it was his release in the summer of 2008, ‘Tout Va Bien,’ that really defined Matthias Meyer’s current musical direction. A long, meandering, deeply spaced percussive journey, full of intricate detail and raw, organic textures, the track received huge support and quickly brought the young musician’s name even more into the light.

As the winter months of 2008 approached, and the buzz from ‘Tout Va Bien’ still worked its magic, Matthias collaborated with long-time friend and producer Patlac, creating another huge club moment entitled ‘Skipper’. This was released on Liebe*Detail’s ‘Spezial’ offshoot label, along with the equally moving track ‘Salt City’, to yet more praise. It seems these two projects really summed up Matthias’ inner love not only for serious grooves, but real drama in his music. These are tracks full of uplifting, positive sentiments, painstakingly designed so that their sound and message comes through as clear as possible.

Matthias has broken through into spotlight thanks to his uniquely passionate take on the house and techno genres. His love of rich, energetic club music full of texture, life and heart propels him to work more and more. His work as a Dj allows him to bring this very human, endearing quality to an increasingly large audience.

In his eyes, the great joy of Djing house music is that, unlike in so many other scenes, he doesnt need to play pop hits to get dancefloor recognition. Instead, he can spin a long tale of rolling grooves and evolving, emotive musical stories that provoke a different, inner relationship between DJ and dancer.

As requests for original tracks and remixes flood in, Matthias remains grounded. For him the groove is the most important thing. He doesn’t rush his music, rather he spends as much time as is needed perfecting his art. For this reason he will remain a very special commodity, a true artist and true creator, so that when his music is experienced it will never fail to pass you by.

It all started, when Doctor Dru was a little boy treating his mothers pots and pans with his drumsticks. Dru s youth was about three things: hitting the snare, skateboarding and funk & soul music. He soon started drumming professionally throughout Europe supporting guys like R.Kelly in sold out concert halls.
A crash with his skateboard changed everything. “I couldn´t play the drums with my broken arms anymore, but I was still able to tweak a mixer.” Doctor Dru fell in love with an atari and a drummachine and started improving his production skills. His older sister forced him to spin vinyl at her numerous parties. The clubs liked that, too. Then he quit doing that for a while to begin an experimental phase of sound soul searching. He was producing and writing for a wide variety of artists e.g. Bootsy Collins, one of his heroes.
But the 4 to the floor never let him go. He felt, he had some grooves to tell and got back into house music. In 2010 he found some like-minded guys out of the Baalsaal, Hamburg and founded the label JEUDI Records. Now in 2011 after ghostproducing for other DJ´s, he came out with his own stuff.
His debut EP “Ooh Gosh!” was sitting in the Top 5 of the dancecharts for weeks. He was the producer behind the slow house edit “Juicy Fruit” which was a summerhit in 2011 and a great success for the new sublabel Blackjuke Box by EXPLOITED. In Autumn 2011 his production of the “Anymore” EP in collabo with his buddies Adana Twins came out on BAALSAAL records. Recently he teamed up with the Adana Twins again for their “Everyday” EP. Now the next tune is already in the starting blocks going to be released on Exploited’s Black Jukebox by the end of April. “The voice of dru” is a smashing deep disco edit. Previews soon come! House is the playground and the pulse keeping it together is his destiny. Listen!

Shir Khan & Exploited reveal the third chapter of their infamous Black Jukebox series dipping their toes into the world of disco edits. The first 2 Vinyl editions already became heavy collector items with prices going up to 99 at Discogs. The digital release features the highlight of the limited record: Doctor Dru – The Voice of Dru.

It’s fair to say that Homework, the duo born and raised in Amsterdam’s Concerto record store, have slowly been securing their place in the national and international house music stratospheres. With releases on labels like Berlin-based Exploited, 2020 Vision, Jesse Rose’s Made To Play, and Riva Starr’s Snatch! and strains of remixes erupting from their studio, the two gentlemen have garnered continuing support from a wide array of artists like Soul Clap, Axel Boman, Oliver $, Jimpster, Derrick Carter, and many others.

Both in their productions as in their dj sets Homework are always opting for an ‘anything goes’ approach towards house music. Equally passionate about both Chicago-infused vintage as modern-day deep house, it’s clear that their years as record store employees have bestowed upon them a broad taste in music.

With a globetrotter’s touring schedule to boot – from Berlin’s Panoramabar, Social Club in Paris and Amsterdam’s Studio 80 – a bright future seems to shaping up for the two cosmopolitans.

In the years preceding a steady output of techy cuts on labels such as Dogmatik and 1trax simmered away catching the attention of cluded up heads and savy A&R people alike. It was her debut EP on Franck Roger’s Real Tone though that ignited the fire of hype and boosted her profile on the global stage receiving heavy support from the house & techno elite. Aside from being hammered repeatedly on the worlds most happening dance floors ‘What They Say’ reached the number 1 spot on across the board; Beatport Deep House Chart No. 1, Tarxsource top download & Resident Advisors most charted tracks for October. It’s safe to say the release won the hearts and heads of fans and critics a like and a landmark year was topped off with a nomination for Best Breakthrough Producer nomination in the DJ Mag Best of British awards.

Not one to fall victim to the pitfalls of being one of the scenes ‘buzz names’, Maya has built on her flourishing reputation with a slew of gigs across Europe holding her own alongside world renounced DJs. So much so her schedule for 2011 is already jam packed with dates across Europe; London’s Fabric, Batofar, Watergate, not to mention iconic Glastonbury Festival, just a few of the destinations.

Maya’s productions take’s influence from a diverse range of musical styles and British – Japanese heritage. Her talents are by no means confided to realms of house and techno. Under the guise of her live dub/electronica outfit, ‘She Is Danger (alongside the multi-instrumentalist/singer Lena Cullen) she has remixed the likes of Massive Attack and Gorillaz and fans of her Dubstep Product under the name Noctural Sunshine include key tastemakers, Joy Orbison and Sucba to name a few.

As well as her trademark bass heavy approach Maya’s diversity as a producer also shines through in productions under her own name as well. Climbing high in Beatport’s ‘Chillout’ top 100 tracks from her stunning ‘Humming Bird’ EP on Hypercolour showcase her blissful vocals and ability to create songs and not just music for the dance floor. Forthcoming EPs on Anja Schneider’s Mobilee Records and for a number highly anticipated exclusives will no doubt elevate her status even further.

A bright talent with more than a couple of strings to her bow Maya Jane Coles is only just getting started.

In her youth she studied both classical and jazz theory as well as dance, and spent a lot of time playing in bands. Later in her teens she fell into the Seattle grunge and rock scenes, but her lifestyle quickly changed when she discovered electronic music and bought turntables in 1999. After spending a few years perusing local record stores, Camea began to collect labels like Perlon, Playhouse and Minus. This eventually led her to the artistically thriving city of Brooklyn, NY, where she moved in 2002, immediately immersing herself in the city’s music scene. Brooklyn’s intense artistic environment became a magical time for her, as this is where she discovered an abundance of new music and met Ambivalent, Alexi Delano, Tim Xavier, and Tony Rohr and spawned Clink Recordings, launching her career as an International DJ by 2005. Soon after her tour schedule became worldwide, and two years later she relocated to Berlin where she resides today.

DJing has stayed the forefront of Camea’s passion but she has also moved her interests into the studio. She released her first solo EP in 2006 and has achieved a discography of original work and/or remixes featured on labels like Bpitch Control, Minus, Clink, Soma, and Get Physical. In 2011 she became the first female producer to ever put music on Richie Hawtin’s Plus 8 label, which featured her remix on Ambivalent’s “Jackson” EP. During this time she also released her first compilation on her imprint titled, Clinkology. Soon after in 2012 arrived her first solo release on Bpitch Control.

As a DJ, Camea’s house/techno hybrid sound has secured her a regular tour schedule around the world. She is a passionate performer and her sound is best described as Seattle cool meets Brooklyn edge meets Berlin chic, and she blends her more traditional musician roots with modern melodic concepts and groovy percussion. Her tracks have topped sales and DJ charts on many occasions, and she has been center stage at many of the world’s hottest clubs and festivals. Since her relocation to Berlin in 2007 Camea has become one of the handful of women from America to make it to the International stage for her genre.

I can’t remember a time without the strains of soul music drifting through our house. With both parents coming from Barbados I was brought up very much in tune with a natural party ethos that went hand in hand with a love of good music. My earliest musical memories are of Booker T and the MGs, Aretha Franklin and, of course the great Elvis, and I used to hijack my parents collection of 70′s soul 45′s and get the whole family grooving round the lounge! I guess the early signs were there – my passion for music combined with an over-whelming desire to entertain as many people as possible.

By 10 I had well and truly caught the bug and was spending every bit of my pocket money on soul and funk records. I got my first pair of decks (just the 2!) by the age of 15 and I started to play as many parties as I could, discovering that I could buzz off a crowd whilst funding my habit at the same time. As the 70′s became the 80′s I followed the musical trend from soul to disco to hip-hop but it wasn’t really until I moved to Brighton in 1986 that I discovered, along with so many others, the pure thrill of acid house.

The ‘Summer Of Love’ was special for me in more ways than one. It was at the Sunrise rave on the outskirts of London in 1988 that I had had my biggest breakthrough yet. I was already something of a regular on the infamous M1/Orbital rave circuit but it was at Sunrise that I had the idea to hook up a third deck. At 10.30am on a hazy Sunday morning I managed to tempt 15,000 partied out ravers back onto their weary feet and kick the party back into action – it was an amazing experience- and since then my phone has not stopped ringing with offers for ‘The 3 Deck Wizard’. I was fortunate enough to participate in many of the events that have gone down in history as defining moments in the history of UK club culture, such as playing the opening night at Rampling’s legendary Shoom, running The Project with Oakie as well as holding a residency at Brighton’s ZAP club.

With my reputation as a DJ well and truly secured I was able to turn my attentions towards producing. Initially signing to Perfecto I had my first hit in 1992 with ‘I Want You’ and, believe me, no one was more surprised than me when I found myself performing on Top Of The Pops when my record peaked at number 23 in the UK charts!!

Despite the fact that the follow up ‘Does It Feel Good To You’ also charted in the top 40, commercial success was never what I had been aiming for, it was all somewhat too far removed from the reality and buzz of setting a dance floor alight. Whilst fellow spinners such as Grooverider and Fabio moved from raves into Jungle, choosing to focus on a very UK and London orientated sound, I couldn’t escape the American and European influences that had always been there whilst I was growing up. I have always been very globally minded which comes across in my choice of music, which I use to cross physical and cultural boundaries to bring people together. Essentially my heart lies with house and techno and it was for this reason that I chose to take a back seat from my impending career as a pop star and be true to myself by going underground and re-discovering my roots.

Designer Labels
I started by setting up my first imprint, MMR, for Techno productions. I found that my popularity as a DJ gave me an opportunity to take techno to the masses and my first album FACT (Future Alliance of Communication and Technology) has to this day sold 250,000 copies. I spent 5 years under my own Ultimate Music Management which spawned club nights and tours alike and set up the forward-looking Worldwide Ultimatum to encourage the creative talents of more DJ’s such as Josh Abraham’s, Trevor Rockcliffe, Earl Gray and DJ Dan. In 1996 Nicky Holloway approached me to start a new night based on the style of music I was playing at the time and Ultimate Base was born at Velvet Underground along with the help of Jim Masters. Over the last 5 years Ultimate Base has showcased some of the world’s finest techno DJ’s, steered by a futuristic ideal, which very much reflects my own way of thinking.

The last several years have been absolutely mind blowing. In between jet-setting between gigs as far afield as South Africa, Israel, Tasmania and Asia I kick-started my acting career in the classic UK clubbing film ‘Human Traffic’ and somewhere along the way I found time to start new labels Ultimatum Breaks and Intec to focus on providing quality purist house and techno. I have regularly contributed Essential mixes for Radio One and I followed up the success of FACT (1&2) with several more mix albums including ‘Phuture 2000′. My career has been marked by a number of awards – I was awarded IDA ‘DJ Of The Year’ 2 years in a row, Muzik named me as the Best British DJ and I’ve had more honours from NME, Dancestar and countless other organisations all over the world.

The time is now
Out of so many highs it is difficult to pin-point the peak for me – it is a close call between The Love Parade and the dawn of the millennium. Playing for a crowd of 1,500,00 up-for-it clubbers in Berlin was the ultimate DJing experience in terms of seeing how wide reaching music can be but then being lucky enough to see in the millennium not once but twice – first on Bondi pavilion, then hopping on a jet over the timeline to Honolulu, Hawaii, was also pretty special.

More recently I have given up my residency at Base in order to concentrate on spreading myself even further afield. But don’t worry, in between producing, writing, remixing, presenting, TV appearances, managing, not forgetting DJing I will still be making regular appearances at Base and hanging with the very people who got me where I am today.

Born in 1989, Tudor-Radu Barbu is known today as one of the biggest deep house producers in the east-europe.Starting composing music in 2004 at the age of 14, Tudor adopted his first aliases like dj pysu and white noise releasing on vinyl at drunk records. In 2006 he gave birth to Dirty Culture a name that entered very quick in the digital house music scene. Working with big labels as Einmaleins-Musik, Loco Records, Recycle, Greelpound, Affin he received lots of feedbacks from Loco Dice, Jimpster, Blacksoul, Brother’s Vibe, Alex Celler, Tim Green, Gel Abril and many other big djs.
With The Netherlands such a power-house of modern electronic music and with a strong close knit community of artists and labels, it comes as somewhat of a surprise that “Hiphouse” marks a rejected debut for Kabale undo Liebe and Lauhaus. Its a brave producer that chooses to match one of hip-hops legendary and most cherished vocals with their fresh beats, but our fearless duo have taken care to show huge respect in creating a club cut that is set to dominate the floors for many months to come. Deep and groovy, the original is backed by a Kabale und Liebe & Lauhaus Dub and an essential ‘Vocopella’ version. Rejected have also drafted in Paco Osuna on the remix and the Spaniard takes “Hip House” on a bassbin-bustin’crescendo-topping workout.

Digitaline is a live act project formed by the Swiss producers Laps (Laurent Bovey) and Gregorythme (Gregory Poncet), who work together in Lausanne and Berlin since 2001.

What began as a bit of fun between two friends turned into various long live sessions and club nights between Lausanne and Zurich, slowly bringing them closer to finding a sound of their own – music full of atmospheric detail, sometimes a little abstract and sometimes more narrative, but always deep grooves made for the club.

Their work became more serious in 2005, when they released their first EP (‘Rubicube’) on Cadenza, after they had given some of their tracks to Luciano. With the help of this new collaboration, Digitaline’s music instantly got international recognition. In 2007, their first longplayer (‘Anticlockwise’) and another EP (‘Honululu’) came out. The next step was playing live gigs in places such as Panorama Bar, Mutek 2007, Movement (DEMF) 2007, Fusion Festival, Fabric, Rex Club and DC10.

After more then one year touring with their fully acclaimed deep techno live act, the duo went back to the studio end of 2008. Their studio collaboration went a step further with these two releases out beginning and end of summer 09 : Seeking Attention Ep on Zürich based label City Fox Records and Oz factor Ep on Cabanne’s label Minibar From Paris. Both records go in the same direction into electronic dance music, deep grooves, concrete atmospheres, organic synthetizers and a bright sense of repetition.

Subtlety is not the first word used in connection with most DJs, but there is much more the metier of Germany’s Gregor Tresher than simply playing records, as Lights From The Inside attests. In fact, after he completed pre-production on his third full-length, Tresher actually stepped away from the decks for six weeks to clear his head. “DJing is my first profession,” he admits. “It’s what I love to do and what I have been doing for almost twenty years now, even before before I started to write my own music.” In the past two years, the producer of 2008′s best-selling Techno track on Beatport (“A Thousand Nights”) has aspired to make music he would want to play out. “But for this record, I had the feeling that this shouldn’t be my priority.” While Lights From The Inside features several songs sure to find favor with Tresher’s nightclub colleagues—”Frontline”, “Breaking Routines,” the giddy “As Days Go By” (recently issued as a single on Josh Wink’s Ovum label)—this twelve-song odyssey operates on multiple levels.

Just as a painting or photograph appears to move if one stares at it long enough, with close listening the stratified grooves and melodies assembled on Lights From The Inside reveal an organic universe of shifting sound. Meticulous attention to the latter element—melody—was of utmost concern to the Frankfurt resident. Not obvious, eight-bar earworms that would quickly exhaust their welcome, but musical lines that could repeat and intertwine in different patterns, “melodies that are more subtle and develop as you’re listening.” In this regard, Lights From The Inside harks back to Tresher’s earlier releases, even as his aesthetic continues to evolve in new directions.

Tone color was also a key consideration. “Most of the music was written in two months, but finding the perfect sounds and putting them together took much longer.” Listen to the interplay of slow-moving tones and twinkling sounds on the title track, or how muted snare hits reverberate against the chilly lower registers of “Leaving”. It’s no coincidence that the almost-tactile crackles, clanks and pops animating the whole album sometimes recall Depeche Mode’s Construction Time Again; the 35 year-old producer cites that 1984 classic as a longtime inspiration, alongside work by other electro-pop iconoclasts from that era.

The album’s play of light against darkness and its pervasive mood of melancholy, both underscored by its title, betray a more specific influence on Tresher’s latest offering: The Cure’s Disintegration. As on that 1989 landmark, he aspired to create an all-encompassing sense of atmosphere, as well as a comprehensive album that covered varied emotional terrain. Towards that end, specific set pieces guide the shape and flow of the record: The menacing opener “Shadow Layers”; the concise, ebullient interlude “If Only”; and “Destroy,” a metallic, rumbling closer that concludes the album with an air of questions yet-unanswered. Tresher aspires to create what another producer once sagely called “music that makes you dance and cry at the same time.” With its simultaneous, synchronized appeal to the feet, head and heart, Lights From The Inside succeeds.

Gregor Tresher began his career as a DJ in Frankfurt in the early ’90s; today, he can be found plying that trade at venues around the world, from Berlin to Tokyo, Sydney to Los Angeles. Following two critically-acclaimed albums credited to his Sniper Mode alias, Tresher broke through as a producer under his own name via his 2005 releases Still and Neon, his remix of Sven Väth’s “Komm,” and his contribution to Cocoon’s Compilation F, “Full Range Madness.” In addition to releasing tracks on countless other esteemed labels, including Intacto, Great Stuff, Rebel One, Ovum, and Moon Harbour, Tresher launched his own eclectic imprint, Break New Soil, in 2009. Lights From The Inside is the third Gregor Tresher studio album, following his debut A Thousand Nights (2007) and The Life Wire (2009).

Always following his own vision of electronic music, Patlac is regarded as one of the rising talents of the german house and techno scene. He started off dj’ing and throwing parties at the age of just fifteen in a small town nearby Hamburg and then eventually got into producing himself. His first releases on Eminor and Greylpound in 2007 and 2008 led to a broader recognition of his skills and releases on several other labels followed soon there after.

Being influenced by productions from Detroit and Chicago and the attitude these cities stand for, Patlac is a producer with understatement. Never caught by the idea of quick fame, his work is always full of personality and commitment. An attitude that is reflected in his tracks: They come with a deepness that speaks to your heart without ever failing on the dancefloor.

In 2009 Patlac made it onto the international radar with “Skipper EP”, a collaboration with his friend and musical counterpart Matthias Meyer. The EP was released by Liebe*Detail, containing the tracks “Skipper”, “Salt City”, plus a “Salt City” Remix by 8bit and Cecille labelchef Nick Curly. In the following months, “Skipper EP” reached the top of many music charts, as did “Tendar EP”, another co-production by Patlac & Meyer, which appeared on DoEasy Records the same year.

Beside his own releases Patlac has earned quite some respect as a remixer. His remixes for Mario Aureo’s “Talking Drums” (Bouq.) and Märtini Brös.’ “Communicate” (another collaboration with Meyer) proved that he is a talented producer. “Talking Drums” was supported by heavyweights like Laurent Garnier, Mathias Kaden and Shinedoe, and the Märtini Brös. remix fills a lot of DJ bags at this time.

At this time Patlac has quite a busy schedule. He’s hosting an event series called “Wake Up” with Matthias Meyer and a female friend. Beside this he’s constantly producing and djing, often accompanied by Meyer. Listening to their collaborations or seeing them spinning back to back exemplifies how great two people can compliment each other musically.

All this aside, Patlac still keeps himself very down to earth. A sensitive guy, who is deeply involved with his local scene, caring about friendships and exploring all facettes of music with the curiosity of a newborn child. The future is bright for Patlac and it’ll be exciting to track the development of his productions in the next few years.

Two giant forces in dance music collide as Guy Gerber makes his first foray with the Visionquest imprint. ‘The Mirror Game’, Guy’s first original material since 2010, explores varying shades and tempos across two distinct cuts of progressive tech and electronica.

Title track ‘The Mirror Game’ is filled with gothic drama from the start. As the deep and trippy synth chords fuse with the distorted bass, layered disembodied voices float into the mix casting their dream-like spell whilst the soft tech groove underlies the gothic melody. A balance of melancholic atmosphere and euphoric surges, ‘The Mirror Game’ has a vivid, timeless feel that would surely make a perfect end-of-the-night record.

Upping the tempo with striding rhythms and endless drive, B-side ‘One Day In May’ provides the punchier dancefloor cut. Steeped in a trippy cosmic tango and echoes of eastern melody, the seductive exchange between female and male vocal working in hypnotic conjunction with the fluid groove. In classic Guy Gerber style, ‘One Day In May’ showcases a heady mix of sounds with dazzling execution.

Guy Gerber, originally from Tel-Aviv Israel, has long been a wildly prolific artist delivering anthemic releases on labels such as Cocoon and Cadenza as well as own imprint Supplement Facts that he set up in 2006. Guy is working on his new album project due to be released later this year, the ‘Steady EP’ will drop on Supplement Facts in May and an entry into the illustrious fabric compilation hall of fame is set for June. Mr. Guy Gerber is well and truly back to blow your mind in 2012.

Art Department is the brainchild of Canadian techno/house Legend Kenny Glasgow and Canada’s fastest rising star and No.19 label owner – Jonny White. As individuals both Kenny and Jonny have released countless critically acclaimed records and are regarded internationally as two of the most forward thinking, revolutionary underground producers out of North America. Kenny’s credentials date back to the late 80’s and include productions on Narcotic, Jinxx, his own Method 11/11 label and Turbo. Whilst White’s revered No.19 Music label along side a blindingly fast – growing discography have seen him rapidly rise to the forefront of the international scene.

The pair, despite being close friends and stalwarts in the Toronto electronic music scene for years, had not joined forces in the studio until only as recently as 2009, when Damian Lazarus called on them to remix Riz MC for his prestigious Crosstown Rebels Label. The result was an entirely new sound that drew cues from the best of both artists. It was a futuristic and raw, synth-driven, underground masterpiece, the start of a new idea and the birth of Art Department…

Before long the two were working full time in the studio to expand upon what they had created but now with a new focus… the concept for Art Department was to create a live dj/vocal performance based on the new sound they were beginning to produce and would feature Kenny Glasgow’s unique and sublime vocals that had been heard only 10+ years earlier on records like “Pressing On”. It wasn’t long before Damian heard what the pair had been working on and immediately offered them a deal with Crosstown Rebels that would include several singles, remixes and a full length album due out at the beginning of 2011.

The momentum continued and Art Department performed their first ever live show at the Crosstown Rebels Get Lost event at the 2010 WMC in front of a jam packed room, along side an A list cast of 17 artists from the label. DJ’s, promoters and party animals regarded the performance as one of the most ground-breaking & important shows at this years WMC…Simple label boss – Will Saul was quoted saying “the live show was the best thing we’ve heard since we heard Mathew Johnson for the first time…”. The follow up performance came the very next night at Jamie Jones & Lee Foss’ Hot Natured party where Art Department treated the enthusiastic crowd to a mind-bending dj set and secured their spot as residents for the much lauded Hot Natured brand.

With massive support from the rebel crew along with an exciting release schedule including collaborations with Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones and Soul Clap there is no doubt that this will be yet another inspired chapter in the story of these Canadian talents.

For a long time, Slovenia has been known for its great electronic parties, but as the local scene is of boutique dimensions, everyone who wishes to take the art of mixing and producing to a professional level, has to go out there and enter the worldwide scene. UMEK has done this step as early as in the middle of the 90s and so he became one of the most important techno players of the global techno scene, even before the end of the last millennium. Together with people, who shared the same views, he successfully captured the first era of researching and recreating the rules of the dance music in Recycled Loops, Consumer Recreation and Astrodisco platforms, which all put the sound of the Slovenian techno on the world map of electronic music.

In the beginning of the year 2007, UMEK started a new 1605 Music Therapy – Sixteenofive, with which he marked the beginning of the second era of his music creation and what an era it is! After 4 years the label is tagged as a great success and is one of the world’s fastest growing techno labels, which spawns releases and new talents almost every week.

Year 2011 started for UMEK as none before! First, and interesting documentary, named “Techno heavy-weights UMEK & Carl Cox in back to back interview” was released and was aplauded by UMEK’s audience and shared tremendously over the internet and social networks. In February, UMEK was again nominated on the Beatport Music Awards, this time as a best artist overall, along with the likes of David Guetta, Deadmau5, Mark Knight. He won by staff pick and is 2011’s Beatport’s Best artist.

Numerous UMEK’s releases and remixes alerady pounding the Beatport Techno and Tech House Chart (on 1605 and other world-renowned labels), and the crown jewel of 2011 – already favourite among the millions of listeners across the globe – his own radio show, wittily titled “Behind The Iron Curtain”, featuring upcoming talents, legendary tracks from the past, best on [1605] and more. All these facts, along with the vast number of tour dates are the best proof that UMEK stays focused on his primary goal – making and selecting high quality productions that stand out from the rest and bringing his sound closer to people all around the world.
